Fudo reports that Gateway is fielding an Athlon 64 L110 based netbook.

The mentioned AMD Athlon 64 L110 processor works at 1.2GHz and according to the specs at Gateway's web site, it features 800MHz FSB and 512KB of L2 cache. The chipset is, in our opinion, more than sufficient for the 11.6-inch HD Ultrabright LED-backlit 1366x768 resolution display, as the X1270 should have no problems with it.

The Wall Street Journal discusses AMD's proposed laptop battery metric.

The MobileMark benchmark tends to show off the strong points of Intel’s chips; in a comparision shown by Moorhead, the battery on a typical system with an Intel microprocessor was rated at 3 hours, 26 minutes per charge under MobileMark; an AMD system lasted two hours, 49 minutes. Using a different test that stresses graphics performance, called 3DMark 06, the two systems had essentially identical battery life.

Tom's Hardware has news of a new BenQ AMD powered 13.3" netbook. Ok, I have issues with anything over 10 inches being called a netbook.

The Joybook Lite T131 weighs in at just under four pounds, measures 1.1-inches think and runs on AMD’s Yukon chipset and Sempron processor. The Joybook Lite packs a 13.3-inch WXGA (1280x800) display complete with anti-glare, 1 GB of RAM (upgradable to 2 GB), a 250/320 GB hard drive, 2 x USB 2.0, a microphone, headphone jack, a 2-in-1 card reader, built in 802.11b/g/n and ships with Windows Vista Home Basic, with an option to upgrade to Windows Vista Business.

The Wall Street Journal discusses AMD's notebook offerings and their strategy this year. The full story is for subcribers only.

Intel already demonstrated it will retake ground quickly in "light-and-thin" notebooks by unveiling its cheap, low-voltage chips. Nonetheless, AMD is getting praise for a sounder strategy than in years past -- focusing on areas where it can compete with its larger rival, rather than chasing it across the PC world.
